Film evaluation (questions)

I worked with ben summerton, becky baker and ,emma dimelow to complete our preliminary filming task. As a group we did alot of the filming together with the initial ideas coming from me and Ben, with becky and emma adding their opinions to shoot the best all round shots.

As a group we created a story board and this was the main planning of our short film. We briefly designed the storyboard within half a lesson. From the start the ideas were clear which made our filming very straight foward.

We used a camera and tripod that we borrowed from the library and then we editing the clips on an apple mac using the program imovie.

The camera angles needed to be just right, so we took into accord these factors; lighting, 180 rule and the camera shot itself ( e.g high angle )

We took mise en scene into account when producing our film. Like we kept the identity of our character very secretive until the last minute showing he doesn't want anyone knowing who he is.

Barthez's theory of structuralism is apparent in our film when we first meet the 2 main characters. Some one like an assassin ( played by ben ) and a boss or some one with importance ( played by me ) because our dialogue or actions will lead to others being taken. Also the enigma code is apparent because we keep the audience intrigued on who is the man walking down the corridor.

I was fairly pleased with the outcome of our piece of work. There was one shot that i would have liked to have include but i didn't have and macro on the camera. The shot was to focus in on something in the foreground, then in the background see ben ; just making his outline out. walking into the room. also i was not pleased to hear the news of not being able to use real songs due to copy right, and that we had to create our own music on garage band. this completely killed the mood of the piece so we did not include a soundtrack.

Premlim filming and editing

For my Prelim filming task we had to stick to a basic outline. It consisted of entering a room and then a section of dialogue all with out breaking the 180 degree rule. In my group was, Emma Dimelow, Ben Summerton and Becky Baker. We tried to film our piece in a mysterious way and trying to keep the identity of the characters a secret to build up suspense. We also used the camera bag as a prop to insinuate a important object. This made it less boring because we had used something unique. I was pleased with the shots that we filmed because they were at a high quality and we had a good variety. There was a shot that we didn't use which we could have, but i had thought of the idea after we had finished it. The shot was a point of view shot, walking down the corridor with a diagetic sound of heavy breathing. This would even further add to the effect of suspense and holding the characters identity unknown.

The quality of the shots really showed when it came to the editing, because we hardly had to cut down the shots and it fitted together quickly and smoothly. We all had a go at editing but it was very simple and straight foward to produce our high quality end result. We chose not to put any music to our piece because we would have to produce our own piece on Garage Band. We came to the conclusion of leaving the music, because it spiolt the mysterious feel we had created through the film, by putting cheesy music over the top.
